WHO WE ARE
Supporting Local Landowners
Since 1948
At the Charlevoix Conservation District (CCD), our mission is simple: to coordinate assistance from all available sources - public and private, local, state and federal - in an effort to develop locally driven solutions to natural resource concerns.
Established in 1948, CCD works to protect the natural resources of Charlevoix County and the northern most tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan through partnerships, community outreach and landowner support. Our programs provide technical assistance, information and education to assist people in the county to properly manage their natural resources. We offer assistance in partnership with local and state organizations to provide sound, solution based support that will contribute to the environmental enhancement and meet the local needs of the communities we serve.
Our staff and board are dedicated to the task of working together, and committed to conservation, to assist private landowners with achieving their land management objectives. Each conservation district is as unique as the communities they serve. Concerned people have a place at their local conservation district. We offer a unique way to work together, plan and carry out activities that lead to sustainable communities, and overall, a better place to live.

WHAT WE DO
Michigan's 75 Conservation Districts (CD's) are your local providers of natural resource management service, helping fellow Michiganders conserve their lands and waterways so our environment can be a cleaner, healthier, economically stronger place to live, work and grow.
Across the United States, nearly 3,000 conservation districts work directly with landowners to conserve and promote healthy soils, water, forests and wildlife. Formed in response to the 1930s Dust Bowl, Conservation Districts are local unties of government that utilize state, federal and private sector resources to address today's conservation challenges.
We plant trees on private and public land. We help farmers and landowners better manage their soil health and save them money. We help forest owners improve the health of their forests. We improve water quality. We make our urban spaces healthier, safer, and more affordable. We work with local schools to help educate tomorrow's leaders on conservation and agriculture. We connect residents with the natural world. We are the local boots on the ground helping communities become more resilient in the face of a rapidly changing planet.
The guiding philosophy of Conservation Districts nationwide is that decisions on conservation issues should be made at the local level, by local people, with technical assistance provided by government-affiliated organizations. To this end, our CD's work hand-in-hand with local, state and federal organizations to roll out programs that directly assist and impact the environmental quality of local communities and our beautiful peninsulas.
We love what we do, and we can't wait to work with you to help Michigan become the most beautifully healthy and thriving "state" it can be. Together.
